AMD hits 46% server CPU revenue, but Intel still owns consumer gaming market

AMD captured 46% of server x86 CPU revenue in Q1 2026, per Mercury Research data cited by Tom's Hardware. That's a massive gain in the datacenter space, where EPYC chips are eating Intel's Xeon lunch.

But if you're building a gaming PC, this doesn't change much. Intel still holds 70% of consumer desktop and laptop CPU sales. Ryzen 9000 and the upcoming 9000X3D parts are competitive, but Intel's volume in prebuilts and OEM systems keeps them dominant in the DIY and budget gaming space.

For gamers: Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 9950X3D are the play if you chase max FPS in Warzone or Valorant. Intel's 14th-gen and upcoming Arrow Lake-S refresh still deliver at lower price points, especially for 1440p rigs where GPU bottlenecks matter more than CPU threads. Server revenue doesn't dictate what's on the shelf at Micro Center.
