AMD raises GPU chip prices to board partners, retail hikes incoming

AMD is raising prices on the GPU and VRAM packages it sells to add-in board (AIB) partners, according to PC Gamer. The increase applies to the core chips and memory kits that partners like Sapphire, PowerColor, and XFX use to build retail graphics cards. No specific percentage was disclosed.

The timing is notable. AMD launched its Radeon RX 9000 series (RDNA 4) earlier this year with the RX 9070 XT at a $479 MSRP — positioned as a 1440p value play against NVIDIA's RTX 5070. If AIBs absorb higher costs, margins shrink. If they pass them through, the price-to-performance pitch weakens.

This matters if you were eyeing a sub-$500 card. The RX 9070 XT's appeal hinges on undercutting NVIDIA while matching or beating the RTX 5070 in raster.
