AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs may get multi-frame generation up to 8x

AMD's FSR 4 might be getting a serious upgrade. Driver code spotted by PC Gamer points to multi-frame generation coming to RDNA 4 GPUs — the RX 9070 XT and its siblings — with support for up to 8 generated frames per rendered frame.

That's a big step up from FSR 3.1's single-frame gen. NVIDIA's DLSS 4 already does multi-frame on the RTX 50-series (up to 3 generated frames per real one on the 5090). If AMD matches or exceeds that, the performance ceiling for mid-range cards like the RX 9070 XT could jump hard.

The catch: more generated frames means more latency risk and more visual artifacts if the implementation isn't tight. NVIDIA's multi-frame works because Blackwell has dedicated hardware for it. AMD's doing this on RDNA 4's ML cores, which are less specialized. Whether 8x is actually usable or just a spec-sheet flex depends entirely on how clean the output is and how much input lag it adds. We won't know until benchmarks drop.
