AMD's RX 9070 GRE drops to $499, the only current-gen GPU under MSRP

AMD's Radeon RX 9070 GRE has dropped back to $499, according to Tom's Hardware. That's its lowest price since launch and the only current-generation GPU you can buy below MSRP right now. The 12GB GDDR6 card launched at $549, putting it in awkward territory between the base RX 9070 and the step-down models — but at $499, it's a real option for 1440p builds.

The rest of the market isn't budging. NVIDIA's RTX 50-series cards are selling at or above launch prices, and AMD's own RX 9070 XT sits at $599. The GRE ("Golden Rabbit Edition," a naming quirk from the Chinese market) has 12GB of VRAM, which is the sweet spot for modern AAA at 1440p. It won't touch a 5070 Ti in raw performance, but it costs $150 less and has more VRAM than the 8GB 5060 Ti.

This is worth a look if you're building around 1440p and don't want to wait for the next round of price cuts. The 12GB buffer gives you headroom that 8GB cards already lack in new releases, and $499 is competitive with previous-gen clearance pricing on RX 7800 XTs.
