AMD RX 9070 GRE drops to $499, undercutting Nvidia's 1440p lineup

AMD cut the RX 9070 GRE to $499, down from its $549 launch price. Tom's Hardware reports the price drop applies to reference models and select AIB cards as of today.

The RX 9070 GRE (RDNA 4, 12GB GDDR6) now slots between Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5070 on price, while beating the 5060 Ti on raw raster performance and matching it on ray tracing in most titles. You're getting 4GB more VRAM than the 5060 Ti's 8GB, which matters for texture-heavy games at 1440p — Alan Wake 2 and Resident Evil 4 Remake both choke on 8GB cards when maxed out.

This is AMD's clearest shot at the 1440p sweet spot since the RX 6700 XT. The 5060 Ti still holds the edge in DLSS quality and ray tracing efficiency, but $499 for 12GB is hard to ignore if you're playing raster-heavy shooters or don't care about frame gen. The RX 9070 XT (16GB, $599) is still the better buy if you can stretch the budget, but the GRE is now the value pick for high-refresh 1440p.
