AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D drops to $279 days after launch

AMD's Ryzen 7 7700X3D hit $279 at retailers this week, down from its $329 MSRP. The chip launched less than two weeks ago. Tom's Hardware spotted the discount at Newegg and Amazon.

The 7700X3D is an 8-core, 16-thread chip with 96MB of 3D V-Cache — the same gaming-boosting tech in the 7800X3D and 9800X3D, just on a previous-gen Zen 4 die. Base clock is 4.0 GHz, boost hits 4.5 GHz. It's a socket AM5 drop-in replacement for anyone already on DDR5 boards.

At $279, this is the cheapest X3D chip AMD has ever sold. The 7800X3D still hovers around $360-$380. The 9800X3D (the current king for gaming) is $479 when in stock. If you're building or upgrading and your workload is gaming-first, the 7700X3D at this price beats every non-X3D Ryzen in frames-per-dollar.

The catch: AMD launched this SKU late in the AM5 cycle, and the discount suggests either inventory clearing or positioning it aggressively against Intel's Arrow Lake mid-range. Either way, you win. The 7700X3D won't match a 9800X3D in absolute FPS, but for $200 less it gets you 90% of the way there in most titles.
