DLSS 5 mod adds foveated rendering, nearly doubles frame rates on ultrawide monitors
Third-party mod uses foveated rendering to unlock DLSS 5 on extreme ultrawides

A modder has released a foveated rendering patch for DLSS 5 that can push frame rates up 90% on ultrawide monitors by rendering the edges of the frame at lower resolution. According to Tom's Hardware, the technique makes 5120×1440 and 3840×1600 playable on RTX 50-series cards that would otherwise struggle with multi-frame generation overhead.
Foveated rendering matches how human vision works — sharp detail in the center, blurred periphery. The mod applies that idea to DLSS 5's frame generation pipeline, carving render budget from screen edges you barely notice. Tests show a jump from ~60 fps to ~110 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 5120×1440 with max settings and DLSS Quality mode. The catch: it only works with single-monitor setups and breaks if you move your eyes too far from center (which is rare in fast gameplay, less so in slower games).
This is a workaround, not a feature. NVIDIA hasn't baked foveation into DLSS 5 officially, so you're running a third-party driver injection that could trip anti-cheat or break in the next Game Ready update. Still, if you're on an RTX 5080 or 5090 and your ultrawide is hammering your 1% lows, the trade-off might be worth it — especially in single-player games where anti-cheat isn't a concern.
If you're running an ultrawide and DLSS 5 isn't cutting it, check your settings on BetterFPS to see if dropping internal resolution or switching to DLSS Balanced buys you the same gains without the mod risk.
