DLSS 5 drops September 3 in NBA 2K27, RTX 50-series only
RTX 50-series exclusive, RTX 40 left behind

Nvidia is shipping DLSS 5 on September 3, 2026, starting with NBA 2K27. The upscaling tech is exclusive to RTX 50-series GPUs (desktop, laptop, and GeForce NOW streaming). Tom's Hardware confirmed first benchmarks are live.
DLSS 5 builds on the multi-frame generation introduced in DLSS 4, adding what Nvidia calls "refined temporal stability" and lower latency headroom at higher frame multipliers. The company didn't share exact FPS figures for NBA 2K27, but sample charts show frame-time consistency improvements over DLSS 4 in crowd-heavy arena scenes. RTX 5070 and above get the full feature set; RTX 5060 supports it with a single-frame-gen cap.
The "controversial" tag comes from the hardware lock — RTX 40-series cards (which run DLSS 4) won't get DLSS 5, even though the architecture gap between Blackwell and Ada Lovelace isn't as wide as previous jumps. Nvidia says the new tensor ops require Blackwell's updated cores. Whether that's a hard technical wall or a soft product segmentation move is the debate.
If you're on an RTX 5000-series card, check your settings once the driver drops. NBA 2K27 will auto-enable DLSS 5 if detected, but you'll want to verify frame gen caps match your monitor's refresh ceiling. Run a fresh playbook to lock in new baselines.
DLSS 5 rolls out to more titles through Q4 2026. Nvidia's publishing a compatibility list on September 3.
