Android phones can now run Steam games locally, Cyberpunk 2077 hits 60 FPS

An open-source app called DroidDeck now runs Valve's Steam client and Windows PC games directly on Snapdragon-powered Android devices, according to TechPowerUp. No streaming from a PC or cloud service—the games run on the phone itself.

YouTuber ETA Prime tested it on a RedMagic 11 Pro with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 16GB RAM. Cyberpunk 2077 hit around 60 FPS on medium settings. Skyrim Special Edition managed similar numbers at 720p. Hogwarts Legacy struggled more, sitting around 40 FPS even with lower settings and FSR enabled.

This is a different beast than Steam Link or cloud streaming—those push pixels from a remote machine. DroidDeck runs the game locally, which means no input lag from network hops, but you're bound by mobile silicon. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is fast for a phone chip, but it's still miles behind even a budget desktop GPU in raw throughput. The RedMagic's 16GB RAM helps—8GB phones would choke hard on these workloads.

Worth caring about if you want PC games on a handheld without buying a Steam Deck or ROG Ally. Performance ceiling is lower, but portability is better and you already own the phone. If you're running a desktop rig, check your current settings before chasing mobile workarounds.

Run a fresh playbook to see where your desktop setup stands.
