Infinity Ward details Modern Warfare 4's DMZ extraction mode

DMZ's AI density and player count will stress CPUs harder than standard 6v6

Infinity Ward details Modern Warfare 4's DMZ extraction mode

Infinity Ward dropped a detailed breakdown of DMZ, the extraction mode shipping with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The mode lets squads drop into Al Mazrah, loot, complete faction missions, and extract with gear that persists between runs — standard Tarkov-lite fare, but this time tuned for CoD's faster pace.

Key bits: AI combatants scale based on squad size, neutral faction NPCs can be recruited, and exfil timers get tighter the more loot you're carrying. Weapon stashes earned in DMZ carry into Warzone 2.0's loadout system, which ties the two modes together in a way the original Warzone never did with Plunder.

Performance implications are real. DMZ runs on the same IW 9.0 engine as the rest of MW4, but the persistent AI density and larger player counts (up to 60 per map) hammer CPUs harder than traditional 6v6. If you're on a quad-core or older Ryzen 5, expect frame pacing issues in hot zones. The mode also benefits from faster storage — those mid-match shader compiles can stutter on SATA SSDs.

This is the first time Infinity Ward has committed to a PvPvE mode at launch rather than bolting it on post-release. If the infrastructure holds and the mode doesn't die in a month, it's a decent reason to keep MW4 installed past the campaign. If it's buggy or the servers crater, it's just another feature bullet point that ate dev time.

Run a fresh MW4 playbook once DMZ drops — CPU and storage settings matter more here than in straight multiplayer.
