DRAM shortages push GPU street prices higher — again

Japanese retailer warns of another GPU price spike coming soon

Applied Group, a Japanese tech retailer, posted on X that another round of GPU price hikes is coming soon. The warning follows a 41% median price increase on NVIDIA's RTX 50-series between August and July 2026 — an increase that put the RTX 5090 above $4,700 in some markets.

The retailer didn't give a date or percentage, just "in the coming months or weeks." DRAM shortages and GPU supply constraints are the cited culprits. If you're on the fence about an upgrade, Applied Group's advice is to buy now before the next bump.

This matters if you were waiting for prices to stabilize. They're not. The RTX 5090 and 5080 launched at already-inflated MSRPs, then climbed further. Another hike puts even mid-range cards (RTX 5070, RX 9070 XT) out of reach for a lot of builders. If you need a new card to hit your frame targets, waiting might cost you more.

Not sure if your current GPU is still cutting it? Run a fresh playbook and see where you stand before prices climb again.
