LG Display ships 720Hz OLED panel for esports monitors
First 720Hz OLED panel hits production — competitive shooters get a new ceiling

LG Display is now mass-producing a 24.5-inch OLED panel with a 720Hz refresh rate, according to a press release from the company. It's the first OLED built specifically for the esports monitor form factor — 24-25 inches is the standard size for competitive Counter-Strike, Valorant, and tactical shooters where players want the entire screen in their peripheral vision without head movement.
The 720Hz spec doubles the current high-water mark (360Hz on most premium esports displays). LG Display makes the panels; actual monitor brands (ASUS, Acer, Samsung, etc.) will announce shipping products in the coming months. Pricing and availability aren't confirmed yet, but previous OLED esports monitors (like the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQDM at 360Hz) launched around $800-1000.
720Hz is overkill for most players — your eyes can't actually resolve frame-to-frame differences past ~240Hz in motion — but competitive shooters care about input lag reduction and motion clarity more than perceptible smoothness. OLED's instant pixel response (0.03ms) eliminates the ghosting LCD panels show even at high refresh rates. The benefit is clearest if you're already pushing 500+ FPS in-game (which requires a high-end CPU like a 9800X3D and a midrange or better GPU).
If you're shopping for a competitive monitor and already own hardware that can feed it, this is the new ceiling. For everyone else running 144-240Hz, the jump from your current panel to 720Hz won't be the upgrade that matters — your GPU or CPU will bottleneck long before the display does. Check your current FPS first: run a BetterFPS optimization playbook and see where your rig actually lands in your main game.
