Modern Warfare 4 promises movement overhaul after years of complaints

Infinity Ward confirmed it's overhauling movement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, directly responding to complaints that dogged Modern Warfare 2 in 2022. The studio told Polygon it "addressed negative feedback" about how MW2 felt compared to the faster, slide-cancel era of Vanguard and earlier titles.

No specifics yet on what changed. Slide-cancel is gone for good (Activision killed it in MW2 and hasn't brought it back). The question is whether IW adds back tactical sprint momentum, faster ADS strafe speeds, or just tightens the base move speed. MW2's movement felt like running through mud if you came from MW 2019 or Cold War.

This matters for controller and M+KB players differently. Slower movement favors pre-aim and holding angles. Faster systems reward reaction time and crosshair placement during strafes. If MW4 leans back toward the latter, expect the meta to shift hard in the first season.

Worth watching when the beta drops. Check your best settings for Warzone now so you're ready to port them over when MW4 integration hits in fall 2026.
