MSI unveils SafeGuard power protection and diamond cooling for next-gen GPUs
Hardware-level power protection could prevent melted connectors on next-gen flagships

MSI showed off new cooling and power protection tech for future graphics cards at Computex 2026. The lineup includes spiral-groove heatpipes, diamond-composite thermal pads, and a diamond-copper baseplate. There's also a fan design with ultra-thin metal blades.
The big news is SafeGuard. It's a server-grade eFUSE system that monitors voltage and current in real time. If it spots a fault, it triggers alerts and throttles power draw to prevent damage. MSI demonstrated this on an RTX 5090 SUPRIM Safeguard prototype.
This matters if you're planning a high-end build. Power spikes and connector failures have plagued flagship cards since the 4090 launched. A hardware-level safety net could mean fewer melted 12VHPWR cables and fewer RMAs. Whether it ships on retail 50-series cards or stays exclusive to SUPRIM SKUs is unclear.
If you're running a current-gen flagship, check your power connector and run a stability test to make sure your setup isn't already pushing limits.
