Nvidia just announced the RTX Pro 5500, a workstation GPU that shares the RTX 5090's Blackwell architecture but swaps priorities: 83GB of GDDR7 memory instead of 32GB, aimed squarely at AI inference and professional rendering. Tom's Hardware reported the card matches the 5090's core specs but prices out of gaming territory—expect enterprise-tier MSRPs when it ships later this year.

The 2.6X memory bump means the Pro 5500 can handle massive AI models that choke on consumer cards. For gamers, it's another signal that Nvidia's flagship silicon increasingly serves two masters, and the one paying data-center premiums gets the better deal. The RTX 5090 already felt like a compromise—great for 4K but overkill for most—and now we know where the real R&D budget went.

This matters if you were hoping the next xx90-tier card would push gaming VRAM higher. It won't. Nvidia can sell the same die with more memory to corporate buyers at 3–4X the margin, so consumer gamers get what's left over.
