PlayStation pulls back on PC ports for single-player exclusives

PlayStation officially ended its PC port strategy for single-player, story-driven exclusives, according to a statement shared by Polygon. The company will continue releasing live-service and multiplayer titles on PC, but games like The Last of Us, God of War, and Spider-Man — the types that drove the original PC push — won't get PC versions going forward.

The shift reverses Sony's 2020–2024 strategy, which brought over a dozen marquee PlayStation titles to Steam. Those ports sold well — God of War moved 6 million copies on PC — but Sony's statement suggests the revenue didn't justify the day-and-date or even delayed release model for narrative games. Live-service titles like Helldivers 2 and Concord (pre-shutdown) launched simultaneously on PC and PlayStation, and that model will continue.

This is a net loss for PC-only gamers who don't want to buy a PlayStation 5 to play Uncharted or Horizon sequels. It also means fewer opportunities to benchmark those games on high-end hardware or push past the console's 60fps cap. If you've been holding out for a PC port of the next Ghost of Tsushima, you're out of luck.
