PNY refuses warranty on melted RTX 5090 despite native PSU cable

AIB warranty inconsistency on melted connectors puts high-end GPU buyers at risk

PNY refuses warranty on melted RTX 5090 despite native PSU cable

A PNY RTX 5090 owner posted photos of a melted 12V-2x6 connector this week, claiming the company denied warranty coverage and closed their support ticket after confirming the cable was a native PSU cable, not an adapter. Tom's Hardware reports the user followed all guidelines — correct cable, proper insertion, no force — and the card still failed.

PNY's stance contradicts what most AIB partners do. ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte have quietly honored RMAs for similar melts over the past year, even when adapters were involved. The 12V-2x6 standard was supposed to fix the 12VHPWR melting issues that plagued the RTX 4090 launch, but connector failures keep surfacing.

This matters if you're running a high-end GPU. The RTX 5090 pulls up to 575W stock — a loose or misaligned connector can arc and melt even when you've done everything right. If PNY won't cover it, you're eating a $2,000 card.
