Flying to QuakeCon for a RTX 5090 is cheaper than buying one online

NVIDIA is selling RTX 5090 Founders Edition cards at MSRP ($2,000) at its QuakeCon booth in Dallas. PC Gamer's Jacob Fox ran the numbers: a roundtrip flight from Manchester to Dallas-Fort Worth costs roughly £450 ($575). Scalper prices for the 5090 in the UK are running £2,500–£3,000 ($3,200–$3,850) — a $1,200+ premium over MSRP.

The math is absurd but real. Flight + MSRP card = ~$2,575. Cheapest UK retailer listing right now = $3,200+. You save $600+ flying to Texas, assuming NVIDIA has stock and enforces the one-per-person limit. QuakeCon runs August 7–10.

This is what happens when a launch meets catastrophic supply constraints. The RTX 5090 (32GB GDDR7, Blackwell) shipped in January 2025 but has been functionally unavailable at MSRP since February. NVIDIA hasn't restocked partners meaningfully. Tariffs and component shortages pushed third-party cards even higher.

If you're serious about a 5090 and live within flight distance of Dallas, this is the clearest shot you'll get at MSRP before Q4. Otherwise, you're paying scalper tax or waiting until supply stabilizes — which NVIDIA hasn't committed to a timeline for.

Check if your current card can hold out a bit longer. Run a playbook and see if settings tweaks buy you a few more months.
