RPCS3 PS3 emulator gets up to 37% FPS boost on GeForce GPUs after driver bug workaround

The RPCS3 team says contributor Yahfz tracked down an NVIDIA driver bug that was killing performance in the PlayStation 3 emulator on GeForce cards. The workaround ships in the latest build and brings FPS gains of up to 37% depending on the game and GPU, according to the project's blog post. Some titles also see lower VRAM usage.

AMD GPUs don't benefit — the bug is specific to NVIDIA's driver stack. RPCS3 says it's tried reporting this and other driver issues through NVIDIA's developer forums but hasn't had much traction. The team is asking for a direct line to someone at NVIDIA who can actually fix the underlying problem.

This is a big deal if you're running RPCS3 on a GeForce card. A 37% bump can turn a choppy 40fps into a smooth 55fps, or push you past the 60fps target in lighter games. The fact that the emulator devs had to ship a workaround instead of waiting for NVIDIA to patch the driver is frustrating, but at least the fix is out now.

If you're running RPCS3, grab the latest build and retest your games. You might finally clear 60fps in titles that were stuttering before. Check our optimization playbooks for more emulator and performance tuning tips.
