RTX 4070 Super runs multi-frame gen via unofficial unlock
Modders unlock DLSS 4 multi-frame gen on RTX 40-series, contradicting Nvidia's hardware requirement claims

An unofficial driver unlock now lets RTX 40-series GPUs run DLSS 4's multi-frame generation, the feature Nvidia restricts to RTX 50-series Blackwell cards. PC Gamer tested the mod on an RTX 4070 Super and found it smoother than expected, according to their hands-on published October 1.
The unlock bypasses Nvidia's artificial hardware gate. DLSS 4 multi-frame gen inserts multiple AI-generated frames between each real rendered frame — Nvidia claims the RTX 50-series Optical Flow Accelerator is required for acceptable quality, but the 4070 Super shares the same architecture (Ada Lovelace) and most of the same silicon blocks. The mod just tells the driver the card is a 5070.
PC Gamer notes the experience isn't flawless — some visual artifacts pop up, latency spikes in specific scenes — but frame times stayed consistent enough that the boost felt playable, not a slideshow. That contradicts Nvidia's messaging that 40-series hardware can't handle it. The company hasn't commented on the unlock, and there's no word on whether a future driver update will block it.
This is a preview of the typical GPU vendor playbook: gate a software feature behind new hardware, claim older silicon "can't do it," then watch modders prove otherwise within weeks. If you own a 4070 Super or higher and want to experiment, the unlock is circulating on enthusiast forums — just know you're running unsupported code that could break in the next driver drop.
