RTX 5070 hits third place on Steam's GPU chart in two months

The RTX 5070 is now the third most popular desktop GPU on Steam, according to the August hardware survey. It shipped in early June and jumped from nowhere to #3 in eight weeks — a faster climb than the RTX 4070 managed at launch.

The card sits behind the RTX 4060 Ti (#2) and RTX 3060 (#1, still). If the curve holds, it could overtake the 4060 Ti by September. The RTX 5070 has 12GB GDDR7, a $549 MSRP, and regularly hits 1440p ultra in current AAA titles without breaking 70°C in decent airflow cases.

This matters because the 5070 is the first mid-range card in a while that doesn't feel like a compromise. The 4070 launched with 12GB but GDDR6X, and the 3070's 8GB aged badly. The 5070's headroom at 1440p plus DLSS 4 multi-frame generation means it should hold value longer than prior xx70 cards.

If you're running a 3060 Ti or older and targeting 1440p, check your upgrade path — the 5070's price-to-performance window is narrower than it was in July, but it's still the best 1440p card under $600 right now.
