RTX 5080 prices blow past 5090 MSRP at major retailers

Nvidia's RTX 5080 and 5090 cards are selling for hundreds over MSRP at Best Buy and Amazon, according to Tom's Hardware. Some Astral RTX 5080 models now cost more than $2,000 — higher than the RTX 5090's $1,999 launch price. Flagship 5090 cards are pushing past $4,300.

The markup hits hardest on partner models. A basic reference 5080 was $999 at launch. AIB versions with beefier cooling and factory overclocks are now crossing the $2,000 mark, even though they're a tier down from the 5090. The 5090 itself has climbed from $1,999 to over $4,300 depending on the model — more than double MSRP.

This is supply and demand grinding against each other. Nvidia shipped fewer 5090s than people want, and retailers are pricing accordingly. If you're eyeing either card, waiting might save you a grand. Or it might not — the 4090 stayed above MSRP for most of its life cycle.
