Steam pulls game that turned into crypto malware overnight

Steam removed Rodent Race after the game's developer switched the build to crypto-stealing malware, according to VGC. The original game was a family puzzle title. The new version, relabeled Beyond The Dark, tried to lift wallet credentials from anyone who downloaded it.

The malware targeted cryptocurrency wallets stored on PCs. Players who launched the game after the update ran the malicious payload. Valve pulled the listing once reports surfaced.

This is the second confirmed malware swap on Steam in 2026. The storefront has no mandatory code review for existing games updating their builds. Developers can push new executables without pre-approval, which creates a window for abuse.
