Unreal Engine 6 revealed via Rocket League visual upgrade

Epic Games confirmed Unreal Engine 6 exists. Developer Psyonix posted a short demo of Rocket League running on UE6, showing off shinier cars and a new engine logo. No release date. No feature list. Just cars and a confirmation that Epic is building it.

Rocket League currently runs on UE3, which is 15 years old. The jump to UE6 should bring better lighting, faster load times, and support for features like Nanite geometry and Lumen global illumination — tech that shipped in UE5. Whether that translates to higher framerates or just prettier 120fps is unclear. Epic hasn't said if the UE6 version will replace the current build or ship as a separate client.

This matters if you care about cross-engine performance. UE5 games often struggle on mid-tier GPUs because of how Nanite and Lumen hammer the card. If Rocket League goes full UE6 with those features turned on by default, your 1660 Ti might not hold 144fps anymore. Epic could also optimize better than most UE5 devs — Fortnite runs on a modified UE5 fork and still hits high refresh on modest hardware.

Check your current Rocket League settings to see if you're maxing out what UE3 can do. When UE6 lands, you'll want a baseline for comparison.
